CHICAGO (May 28, 2021) – For the second time in three years, Loyola University Chicago men's basketball has produced a CoSIDA Academic All-America selection with the announcement today that center
Cameron Krutwig (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) has been selected to the second team. Krutwig and Gonzaga's Corey Kispert are the only two NCAA Division I student-athletes in men's basketball to be both an Associated Press All-America and CoSIDA Academic Academic All-America honoree in 2020-21.
The 6-foot-9 Krutwig, who was named the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2020-21, is the third Rambler in program history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America status and the first since Clayton Custer in 2019. An entrepreneurship major, Krutwig graduated earlier this month with a 3.45 cumulative grade-point average.
Krutwig puts a bow on a decorated career with this honor. One of the most accomplished players, both on and off the court, to wear a Loyola jersey, he finished his career in March as the only player ranked in the program's all-time top ten in points (1,833), rebounds (944) and assists (373). A four-time All-MVC selection in his career, the big man earned first team all-league honors in each of the last three seasons and this year became the third Rambler in four years to take home the Larry Bird Trophy as the MVC Player of the Year.
During the 2020-21 season, Krutwig was one of the most efficient players in the nation and contributed 15.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.1 blocks and 1.1 steals per game, while shooting 57 percent from the field, as Loyola posted a 26-5 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16. The Ramblers closed out the year ranked No. 12 in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Top 25 Poll, and won their third MVC regular-season championship in the last four seasons. He also was an Associated Press Third Team All-America pick in 2020-21 and over the course of his career, guided the Ramblers to 99 wins, three postseason berths and three conference titles.
Krutwig, who now turns his sights to a professional basketball career, will participate in the Tampa Bay Pro Combine, June 3-5.
