CHICAGO (Jan. 21, 2022) – The Loyola University Chicago men's volleyball team was back in Gentile today as they took on the Belmont Abbey College Crusaders. After a close contest between the two teams, it was the Ramblers who ended up on top as they swept the Crusaders 3-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first set was a strong showing for the Ramblers. They came out swinging and didn't give the Crusaders any room for a comeback.
Colton Brooks scored the first point of the match and it gave Loyola early momentum. The Ramblers went on multiple service runs from that point on to get a leg up on Belmont Abbey, resulting in a 25-18 victory for Loyola.
After that first set, the Crusaders fought back. The two teams were pretty even in the second until Belmont Abbey went on a five-point service run to go up 19-14 late in the second. However, The Ramblers chiseled away at their lead, making a huge comeback at the end. Brooks went on a six-point service run to give Loyola the 25-22 win in the second.
From there, the Ramblers could not be stopped. They plowed through the Crusaders, starting the match with a five-point run from
Henry Payne followed by another six-point run from Brooks. When Loyola wasn't dominating at the service line, they were making plays at the net.
Jimmy Meinhart,
Andrew Lyons and
Nicodemus Meyer were a dominating force with their blocks, not allowing the Crusaders to score any points. This ultimately resulted in a 25-10 win in the third and final set for the Maroon and Gold.
