RAMBLERS COME UP SHORT IN BATTLE AGAINST NO. 5 LONG BEACH STATE
Loyola University Chicago Men's Volleyball loses 3-0 to Long Beach State University.

CHICAGO (Jan. 22, 2022) – The No. 9 Loyola University Chicago men's volleyball team was back in action today with a top 10 battle against No. 5 Long Beach State University. It took three sets to determine the winner of tonight's match as Loyola fell 3-0 to the Beach.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first set started out slow for the Ramblers. Although they were able to gain momentum off key plays from Colton Brooks and Henry Payne, it wasn't enough for the Loyola. They lost the first set to the Beach 25-17.

In the second, the Ramblers came in hot. They stayed within three of the bad guys throughout the entire set until Long Beach went on a three-point service run to extend their lead. From there, Loyola was unable to come back, losing the set 25-17.

The third set had a similar result to the first two for the Maroon and Gold. They kept it close with the Beach throughout most of the third, however, a run towards the end of the set caused Long Beach to grow their lead. Even though Andrew Lyons tried to bring the Ramblers back with a service run of his own, it wasn't enough. They lost the third and final set 25-22.

LOOKING AT THE NUMBERS
  • Brooks was the main contributor on offense tonight for Loyola. He ended the night with eight kills while also contributing an ace.
  • Lyons also helped the team out in the front row and back row. He hit .500 on the night, racking up six kills and one error on 10 total swings. He also added on two aces from the service line.
  • Parker Van Buren continues to be an asset for the Ramblers. The redshirt freshman finished the night with seven kills while also adding a team-high five digs.
