Ramblers Capture Team Title at Loyola Parkinson Invitational

Martinez takes runner up honors for best career finish

LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. (October 11, 2022) – After a windy day at The Merit Club in Libertyville, Ill., the Loyola University Chicago women's golf team took the team title at the Loyola Parkinson Invitational for their second win of the season.

Loyola continued their strong play, carding a final round 306 to post a 54-hole total of 918 (309-303-306) and take a five-shot lead over second place Creighton (309-309-305=923). Drake's Kristen Giles took individual medalist honors with a 225 (78-69-78) to finish one stroke ahead of graduate student Lorenza Martinez, who secured her best career finish with a solo second place with a 226 (77-73-76).

"It's very exciting to win the first ever Loyola Parkinson Invitational!" said head coach Brandy Johnston. "We were incredibly fortunate to be able to host this event at The Merit Club and we are truly thankful to the Parkinson family and the Merit Club staff for making this event possible. Winning is always nice but I think what I was most excited about this weekend was seeing the way we responded to the challenges we faced along the way. We had some moments where we struggled but everyone stayed focused, stuck to their game plan, and we were able to achieve the goals we set before the tournament started."

Junior Abby Thielbar slotted one shot behind Martinez on the leaderboard, finishing her week with a 227 (73-77-77) to finish in a share of 3rd for her highest career finish. Freshman Adie Maki utilized a hot start on her opening nine to en route to her best finish of the season so far with a 235 (83-76-76) while sophomore Grace Suter (76-79-80) matched her on the leaderboard to secure a share of 10th place for each of them. Sophomore Jolie Brochu matched her second-round score with another 77 in her final round to take part in a tie for 17th with a 239 (85-77-77). On the individual side, junior Kate Meier led the way with a 246 to place in 28th. Senior Maggie Micetich (87-85-83=255) carded her best round of the week with a final-round 83 to share 32nd while fellow senior Caroline Dayton (89-87-83) matched Micetich's final-round 83 to finish the week in 37thwith a 259.

"With four players finishing in the Top-10 plus the strong play of Jolie after a tough first round, I think it's fair to say it was truly a team effort!" Johnston added.

The Ramblers now travel up north, where they will close out their fall portion of the schedule at the Chippewa Invitational, October 17-18, in Birmingham, Mich.
