CHICAGO (March 15, 2022) – Lucas Williamson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young), a guard on the Loyola University Chicago men's basketball team, has been named National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) First Team All-District 16, it was announced today. The 6-foot-4 graduate student garnered First Team All-Missouri Valley Conference and MVC Defensive Player of the Year recognition earlier this month.
Â
Williamson, the winningest player in program history with 124 victories, has enjoyed his best season as a Rambler and entering this week's NCAA Tournament action, is providing 14.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.3 steals per game, while shooting 45.1 percent (143-for-317) from the field and 39.6 percent (72-for-182) from three-point range.
Â
The Doug Elgin Most Outstanding Player of the 2022 Missouri Valley Conference Championship has scored 20 or more points on six occasions this season and dropped in a career-best 29 points in the regular-season finale at Northern Iowa on February 26. Named to the 10-person watch list for the Julius Erving Award this year, Williamson came up big in Loyola's MVC Championship title game victory over Drake on March 6, registering 18 points and 10 rebounds for his second career double, and first since the 2018-19 campaign.
Â
This season, Williamson finished third in the MVC Larry Bird Trophy voting. The award recognizes the league's player of the year.Â
Â
During his five-year career, the lockdown defender has helped the Ramblers to a 124-43 (.741) overall record, three Missouri Valley Conference regular season and tournament championships, three NCAA Tournament appearances, a National Invitation Tournament bid, a NCAA Sweet 16 and a NCAA Final Four. He is one of only 23 players in program annals to accumulate over 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in his career and he also ranks second in school history in three-point field goals made (222) and steals (187), while ranking first in total games played (149).
