Ramblers Swept Flyers For Second Time This Season

Loyola Men's Volleyball defeated Lewis 3-0.

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. (March 26, 2022) – The Loyola University Chicago men's volleyball team hit the road as headed to the western suburbs to take on the No. 12 Lewis Flyers. This match only went to three sets as the Ramblers swept the Flyers (25-18, 25-17, 26-24) for the second time this season. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ramblers were hot to start this game. They came out and registered two aces in the first nine points, giving them an 8-1 lead at the beginning. Loyola continued the run with multiple perfect performances on offense to give Loyola the win in the first set over the Flyers with a score of 25-20. 
 
From there, the Ramblers kept their foot on the gas. Although the Flyers battled back at various points throughout this set, Loyola was not letting them back into this set. The Maroon and Gold laid it on Lewis, dominating them with a score of 25-17. 
 
Once the third set rolled around, Lewis strived for a comeback. The Flyers took the lead at multiple points in this set, and even had game point at the end of the set. But the Ramblers did not give up. Loyola ended up getting the next point to come back and win the third and final set 26-24 to sweep Lewis for the second time this season. 
 
LOOKING AT THE NUMBERS
  • Cole Schlothauer had one of the best nights since his return to the court. He had 12 kills and no errors for a .632 hitting percentage while also putting up a match-best five aces. He also helped on the defensive end of the ball with three digs and two blocks.
  • Jimmy Meinhart had a perfect offensive performance. He had six kills on six attempts.
  • Garrett Zolg grabbed his sixth double-double of the season with 33 assists and 10 digs.
  • Parker Van Buren continues to be a huge force on offense. He had a match-high 13 kills while also tallying a solo block and five digs.

 The Ramblers will be back on the road on Thursday, March 31, as they face the Lions of Lindenwood. First serve for that game will be at 7 p.m. A live stream and live stats will also be available.
