CHICAGO (June 20, 2022) – Loyola University Chicago head women's basketball coach
Allison Guth announced the addition of Emma and Sophia Nolan (Valparaiso, Ind./Marquette Catholic/St. John's) to her roster for the 2022-23 season on Monday. Both members of the duo make their way to Rogers Park following a three-year stay at St. John's University in Queens, N.Y.
Emma Nolan racked up 46 starting assignments across 81 career appearances during her time with the Red Storm. The 6-foot-1 forward scored a career-high 16 points as part of a win over Xavier on March 1, 2020, one of six double-figure scoring efforts during her freshman year. Nolan went on to see action in 50 games across her sophomore and junior campaigns, helping St. John's to back-to-back appearances in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Women's Basketball Tournament.
Prior to her arrival in The Empire State, Nolan rewrote the record books at Marquette Catholic High School in Michigan City, Ind., setting new program records for career points (1,969), rebounds (911), steals (250), and blocked shots (187). Twice selected as an
Indy Star Indiana All-Star and an Underclass Small School All-State pick by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA), Nolan was a driving force behind the Blazers winning back-to-back Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) state titles.
"Emma is an outstanding addition to our program," Guth stated. "She brings a wealth of collegiate playing experience and will immediately impact us with her versatility. Emma is a skilled player who can play in our positionless offense. We are eager to utilize her ability to create offense at the rim and beyond the arc, while using her physicality and length to defend in our system."
Sophia Nolan saw action in 33 contests in three seasons with at St. John's. She made her collegiate debut in a victory over Lafayette on November 13, 2019 before scoring her first collegiate points just over two weeks later against IUPUI on November 30. This past season, Nolan put up four points in a matchup with BIG EAST foe Creighton on February 18.
Like her sister, Nolan enjoyed a decorated career at Marquette Catholic High School, where she ranks second on the career leaderboards in points (1,964), rebounds (800), steals (220), blocked shots (108), and three-point field goals made (153). A two-time Underclass Small School All-State honoree by the IBCA, the 6-foot-1 forward was also named an
Indy Star Indiana All-Star in consecutive campaigns.
"Sophia is a wonderful addition to our program," Guth continued. "She had a tremendous high school career and is eager to take what she has learned thus far collegiately and put it to work here at Loyola. Sophia is a skilled shooter who can really convert from downtown. We are eager to utilize her ability to create offense beyond the arc, while using both her length and basketball intelligence to defend in our system."
"We are thrilled to welcome Emma, Sophia, and the entire Nolan family to Rambler Nation," Guth concluded.
Emma and Sophia Nolan join the previously announced duo of incoming freshmen Whitney Dunn and Mallory Ramage. The four newcomers will join a group of eight returning letterwinners as Loyola, which posted its top win total in over 30 years last season, begins competition as a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference in 2022-23.
