Adie Maki Qualifies For 2022 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship

Incoming freshman will play at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash. August 8-14

SAGINAW, Mich. (July 8, 2022) – Adie Maki (Canton, Mich./Skyline), an incoming freshman on the Loyola University Chicago women's golf team, has qualified for the 2022 United States Women's Amateur Championship in August after taking co-medalist honors at a qualifying event at the Saginaw Country Club in Saginaw, Mich. Maki is the first Rambler to qualify for the event since fellow Michigan native Elayna Bowser qualified in 2018.

"It's an exciting day to be a Rambler!" said Loyola women's head coach Carly Werwie. "Having Adie qualify for the U.S. Women's Amateur shows the direction our program is trending in with our competitiveness and skill level. Playing in a United States Golf Association (USGA) Championship is an amazing experience and I'm so excited that Adie will have an opportunity to play against some of the best female amateurs in the world."

Maki started her round off with a bang, birdieing the short par-four second hole. She would go on to record a bounce back birdie at the par-four sixth hole after bogeying the fifth to hand in a one-over par front nine. Maki was able to remain calm after bogeying the par-three tenth hole, playing the rest of the back-nine at even par before birdieing the final hole. The birdie brought her final score down to a one-under 70 and put her into a tie for first, saving her from a playoff.

A native of Canton, Mich., Maki signed her National Letter of Intent with the Maroon & Gold this past November after playing four years at Skyline High School.  She finished her high school career as the program record holder for lowest scoring average (73.3) and lowest individual round (68). A four-time All-South Eastern Conference (SEC) honoree, Maki, who will join the Ramblers this fall, was named to the All-State Team in her junior and senior seasons.

"Qualifying for an event as big as the U.S. Women's Amateur has been a huge goal of mine," Maki commented. "It's been surreal for me to think that I'll be competing in such a world class event. I can't wait to tee it up at Chambers Bay! Go Ramblers!"

The U.S. Women's Amateur Championship will be hosted by the USGA at historic Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, Wash. from August 8-14. The event opens with 156 players competing in stroke play for two days, with the top 64 players advancing to the match play stage. Seeding is determined by finishing position from stroke play, with ties being decided by a match of cards. Match play goes throughout the week, with the field decreasing each day until two finalists play 36 holes on the final day to determine a champion.
