MADISON, WI. (October 2, 2023) – The Loyola University Chicago men's golf team wrapped up competition at the Badger Invitational with seventeenth place.
The Ramblers concluded action with a third round of score of 302, giving them a grand total of 898 strokes (308-288-302) for the week.
"I really wish we could've gotten off to a better start on Sunday," said head coach
Erik Hoops. "This is one of the stronger fields we've competed with for a while and we showed we have the ability to play right along with them with some of our better rounds this week. Unfortunately, we had some uncharacteristically poor rounds on Sunday or we would've been right there with this field."
Leading the Ramblers overall was graduate student
Zach Walsh, finishing the week at even-par with a 216 (71-72-73) to place in 30
th. Behind him was sophomore
Sebastian Kasun, finishing the week with a 225 (T-69; 75-73-77) while sophomore
Ryan Walsh (84-72-73) and freshman
Jackson Overton (79-71-79) tied each other with a 229 to take 74
th. Rounding out the leaderboard was sophomore
Charlie Kulwin with a 235 (T-84; 83-73-79). In the individual tournament hosted at TPC Wisconsin, redshirt sophomore
Zach Mulhearn placed in 24
th with a 242 (75-82-85).
"We're a young team and we're going to take away a lot from this week," Hoops added. "Zach continues to be a great leader for us. He's doing all the right things and being a great mentor to the underclassmen. We got a week to fix up some stuff and we'll be ready for one of our favorite events in Dayton."
The Ramblers move ahead now to the Dayton Flyer Invitational, October 16-17, in Dayton, Ohio.
