SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (March 12, 2024) – After a strong final day on the course, the Loyola University Chicago men's golf team rose up the leaderboard to place in tenth at the Ross Collegiate Classic.
The Ramblers combined to shoot a 54-hole total of 882 (305-293-284) led by a stellar effort in their final round. Loyola's final-round total of 284 came in at four-under-par and is the lowest single-round score under head coach
Erik Hoops.
"It felt great to shoot one of the lower rounds of the day today," said Hoops. "We talked last night about that being our goal for today and we succeeded. We have a lot of momentum going into our spring stretch run. Love that the weather in Chicago is looking great in the extended forecast and we can keep working outside to get ready for Alabama."
The Ramblers were led by graduate student
Zach Walsh, who carded a second-consecutive two-under-par 70 to finish the tournament at two-under-par with a 214 (74-70-70), good for a 12
th place finish. Placing a stroke behind him at one-under for the week was sophomore
Sebastian Kasun, who matched Walsh's 70 in his final round to place in 12
th with a 215 (76-69-70).
"We had great weeks from Seb and Zach." Hoops said. "Red numbers over 54 holes is what we need from a couple guys to compete with any field. I hope they can keep it going"
Putting forward his low round of the week was sophomore
Charlie Kulwin, who carded a one-under-par 71 to place in 67
th with a 228. Sophomore
Dori Lee carded a 73 in his final round for his low round of the week as well, placing in 79
thwith a 234 while sophomore
Ryan Walsh rounded out the lineup with a 235 (T-81; 75-77-83). On the individual side, redshirt-sophomore
Zach Mulhearn (79-81-75) put forth his best effort of the week with a 75 in his final round to tie
Ryan Walsh in 81
st.
The Ramblers now turn their attention to the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, March 24-26, in Mobile, Alabama.
