CHICAGO – After leading the No. 12 Loyola University Chicago men's volleyball team to two sweeps over Queens this past week, outside hitter
Parker Van Buren was named the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) Offensive Player of the Week, the league's office announced Tuesday.
Van Buren led the Maroon and Gold in last Thursday's sweep (25-13, 25-17, 25-21) over Queens with 13 kills on 21 swings while hitting a staggering .611.
In Saturday's rematch, the Cross Plains, Wis. native led the way again, hitting .469 with 16 kills on 32 swings. Loyola again swept the Royals (25-22, 25-15, 25-22), leading to the series win.
While hitting .520, he ended his week with 29 kills (4.83 p/s), eight digs (1.33 p/s) and 31.5 points (5.25 p/s). Notably, Van Buren was responsible for four of the six set-winning points against Queens.
Previously this season, Van Buren tallied the MIVA's week four Offensive Player of the Week nod. He's racked up 10 of the conference's weekly plaudits thus far in his career, the most of any Rambler in team history.
Loyola Chicago returns to action in its regular season finale versus No. 14 Lewis this Saturday (April 6) inside Gentile Arena. Prior to first serve at 5 p.m., the program will be recognizing and honoring its class of six graduating seniors.
