CHAMPAIGN, ILLINOIS (April 21, 2024) – The Loyola University Chicago men's golf team concluded play at the Fighting Illini Spring Collegiate, wrapping up the weekend in twelfth place.
The Ramblers combined to shoot a team score of 309 strokes in the final round, giving them a three-round total of 927 (315-303-309).
"It was a really hard test this week down here in Champaign," said head coach
Erik Hoops. "Competing with some of the best teams in the country on a golf course of that difficulty is where we want to get to as a program and we've learned a lot of lessons this week about how to tackle a test that challenging."
Leading the charge on the final day of competition was graduate student
Zach Walsh, who fired the team's low round of the weekend with a 73 in his final round, placing him in 35
th with a 226 (76-77-73). Sophomore
Charlie Kulwin was right behind him in 46
th with a 232 (79-77-76) while sophomore
Ryan Walsh placed in 53
rd with a 234 (80-75-79) whole sophomore
Sebastian Kasun came home in 59
th with a 236 (80-74-82). Rounding out the lineup was sophomore
Dori Lee, who came in 68
th with a 245 (84-80-81).
"All spring we've been preparing for a quite different test for next week," Hoops said. "A very different set of skills is needed to attack golf in Florida against the golf course we played this week. I feel good about where we are and honestly feel we are ready to back up our good performance in our first A10 Championship last season. We're excited to get down there and compete."
The Ramblers now set their sights on the postseason, competing in the A10 Championship, April 26-28, in Florida.
