ORLANDO, FLA. (April 28, 2024) – The Loyola University Chicago men's golf team surged up the leaderboard on Sunday morning, jumping from tenth place up to tenth at the conclusion of the A10 Championship.
The Ramblers combined to shoot a team score of 288 strokes, the third-lowest score of the day among all teams. They finished the week with a three-day total of 901 strokes as a team.
"It feels good to wrap up a season with one of our most complete rounds of the year," said Head Coach
Erik Hoops. "All year we have been searching for a performance where everyone plays well at the same time. It took us a while, but we got there. I think today proved why we feel very good about the future of our program."
Leading the Ramblers overall was sophomore
Ryan Walsh, who fired a two-under-par 70 in his final round to place in 20
th with a 223 (76-77-70). Sophomores
Charlie Kulwin (T-21; 75-78-71) fired a one-under-par 71 to come home with a 224 while fellow sophomore
Sebastian Kasun (T-26; 79-71-75) placed one stroke behind him with a 225. Freshman
Jackson Overton placed in 59
th with a 154 (80-74), led by a 74, his low round of the weekend.
Graduate student
Zach Walsh capped off his Loyola career with a 73 in his final round, placing him in 39
th with a 230 (78-79-73).
"We are sorely going to miss Zach," said Hoops. "Going from a no-scholarship walk-on to having one of the finest years a Loyola golfer has had was well earned. It's proof of what you can accomplish when you just put in the work. His classmate
Nolan Doherty also deserves a ton of credit for being a team leader this year. It may not have been on the golf course, but in the classroom and how he handled himself his entire career is exactly what you want to see from a student athlete. We know both of them will have very successful careers and they left this place better than they found it for sure."
The Ramblers now set their attention to the 2023-24 season, returning six student athletes in addition to newcomers Clay Heilman, Alex Rasmussen, and Connor Woodin.
