CHICAGO - The Loyola University Chicago men's cross country team defeated two nationally ranked programs on its way to a runner-up finish at the 46th Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational on Friday at Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course.
William Sinclair paced the Ramblers in the men's Tom Cooney Championship 8K, placing fourth overall in 23:24.66. Jake Phillips followed in 13th with a personal-best 23:50.3, while Hayden Healey also set a PR with his 24:04.46 effort. Rounding out Loyola's top five were Yusuf Baig (24:11.32) and Nate Boutin (24:22.05, PR).
Additional finishers for the Ramblers included Rodolfo Sanchez (24:23.75), Izak Bibile (24:41.8, PR) and Woody Jerome (25:41.08). Louisville's Elsingi Kipruto won the individual title, while No. 7 Wisconsin claimed the team championship.
On the women's side, Roisin Treacy highlighted the day with a personal-best 20:19.04 in the Tom Cooney Championship 6K. She was followed by Bárbara Neiva (21:15.87) and Angy Salado Fernandez (21:44.14). NC State's Hannah Gapes captured the individual crown, and the No. 2 Wolfpack secured the team title as well.
In the women's open 6K, Jo Collins led Loyola with a 22:52.81 clocking, followed closely by Lindsey Kiehl (23:28.11). Frances Perry (23:45.68) and Mackenzie Armstrong (24:33.91) also competed for the Ramblers.
In the men's open race, Loyola's Colby Revord won in 25:34.59. Teammates Aidan Collins (27:11.91), Dylan Ybarra (27:45.87) and Kyle Knutson (27:46.37) placed fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.
Loyola returns to action Oct. 18 at the Missouri Pre-National Invitational.
