Loyola Tabs Pougnet as Men's Golf Head Coach

CHICAGO – Loyola Chicago announces Peter Pougnet as the next head men's golf coach. Pougnet arrives in Rogers Park after a combined 12 years of head coaching experience at Regis and Roosevelt.

"We're thrilled to welcome Peter Pougnet as our new head men's golf coach," said Watson. "Peter brings a competitive edge and wealth of experience that will make a difference in our student-athletes' success on the course and in the classroom. We're excited to see the future of the program under his leadership."

Most recently, Pougnet served as an assistant coach at Kentucky during the 2024-25 season. He had a hand in coaching an individual NCAA Regional appearance and a 36-7 record that saw wins over top-25 teams.

"First, I'd like to express gratitude to Athletic Director Steve Watson, Tom Sorboro, and the entire search committee for all the time and work they invested in this process. I'd like to thank them all for believing in me to lead the men's golf program here at Loyola Chicago," said Pougnet. "I believe this program can be very special, and I can't wait to get back to Chicago and compete. Go Ramblers!"

Pougnet got his start in Chicago, leading the Roosevelt men's golf squad from 2014 to 2022. He was tabbed the CCAC Coach of the Year on two occasions after helping the team achieve a 78 percent increase in wins over his last six seasons.

Roosevelt saw its first 12 victories in school history under his guidance, which included the 2020-21 and 2021-22 CCAC conference championships. In 2020-21, Pougnet coached the CCAC Player and Freshman on the Year who were two of his eight first team all-conference selections during his tenure.

Following his stint at Roosevelt, Pougnet served as the head men's and women's golf coach at Regis from 2022-24. While there, he was elected to and served on the NCAA Regional Advisory Committee for women's golf.

Pougnet recruited and led the program's first conference individual champion as well as three all-conference selections on the women's side, while improving the men to the seventh best scoring average in program history.

Off the course, Pougnet and his Regis squads ranked first and second in women's and men's community service hours, respectively.

Pougnet joins the Ramblers beginning in July 2025 to prepare for Loyola's fourth season competing in the A-10 conference.
