Box Score

DETROIT - Blake Schilb scored 21 points to lead Loyola University Chicago (12-7, 4-3 Horizon) to a hard-fought 70-64 victory over Detroit (5-12, 2-4 Horizon) tonight at Calihan Hall. The victory is the Ramblers' first at Calihan Hall since 1992, snapping a 13-game losing streak there. With the win, Loyola also put an end to a five-game, road-losing skid.

"This was a hard-earned victory," Loyola head coach Jim Whitesell said. "When you play Detroit, you have to man up, play tough and with effort and intensity. It's great to see some smiles back in our program. This was a big win for us."

Schilb hit a three-pointer and Leon Young converted a lay-up to break a 44-44 tie and give the Ramblers a 49-44 lead they would never surrender. Detroit cut the Loyola lead to 61-58 with 5:50 left to play, but a free throw by J.R. Blount and a basket by Schilb gave the Ramblers some breathing room and a 64-58 advantage.

Schilb added seven assists, four boards and three steals in addition to his team-high 21 points while Young totaled 14 points off the bench.

Brandon Cotton scored 22 points to lead Detroit.

Loyola steps out of Horizon League play when it hosts IPFW on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 3 p.m.
