Loyola vs. IPFW
Post-Game Quotes
January 20, 2007

Loyola Head Coach Jim Whitesell

Opening Statement
"I was really pleased, I thought we had spurts of good basketball and other spurts where we were out of sync. We had a real good start to the second half. Blake (Schilb) had a couple threes. It gave us a bump, and then defensively we played much better."

On Tyler Best
"(Tyler) Best, their big kid, gave us problems in the first half. Our guys did a better job to not let him try to touch the ball. He really does a nice job of passing and has great touch for a big guy. He can back you down in the post."

On Defense
"Kye (Pattrick) gave us a lift on the defensive end. When we play defense, we're a much better basketball team. We're a work in progress in a lot of areas, but I'm happy with the win. Defensively, I thought there were a lot of positive things."

On IPFW
"We told our kids this is like a conference game, that they've got to play well. At halftime they had to re-evaluate."

On the upcoming game vs. Butler and other games down the road
"Defensively we've got to get better. If we're going to make a run, we're going to really defensively lock up. The other thing is that we're going to have to move the ball and not turn it over. We're getting there, but we're not there yet. We need to get there this week, no doubt about it. We're going to have to play lights out and are going to need a great crowd."

IPFW Head Coach Dane Fife

Opening Statement
"I'm really proud of our kids. I thought we had a really good first half, but the second half was completely different. You've got to give Loyola a lot of credit. To come out of their league and play a team that's not in the Horizon League. I thought they crushed us on the glass. They had 25 second-chance points and completely abused us on the glass. It was a good learning lesson for us."

On Tyler Best
"Tyler's not a kid who can play the whole game. He's a thirty-minute guy. I thought we asked a lot of him."

On Blake Schilb
"Obviously he's playing with a hurt hand, and it's tough to dribble, tough to shoot. He came out and made two big threes in the second half. That's what really got Loyola going. I'd say there's no question that Schilb is right up there with some of the best players we've seen."

On Majak Kou
"Kou is pretty good in his own right. I think he's kind of the silent assassin. He makes the team go as much as Blake does."

Loyola Guard Blake Schilb

On the game IPFW before the showdown against Butler
"We wanted to use it as sort of a tune-up, but we didn't want to look past it. We know we have a big game Thursday, everybody is talking about it. We had to take care of business today. We always want to take care of business at home. It was a special day for Jack (Majak Kou)."
