Ferguson Leads Men's Soccer To 4-1 Exhibition Win

Aug. 28, 2009

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team scored three goals in the first 20 minutes on its way to a 4-1 exhibition victory over Oakland on Friday (Aug. 28). Senior Michael Ferguson tallied four points on a goal and two assists to lead the Ramblers.

The friendly took place at the National Soccer Festival in Fort Wayne, Ind., as one of over 30 high school and collegiate matches. The win gives Loyola its second in two exhibition matches this season after a win against St. Joseph's (Ind.) on Aug. 23.

"We came out strong and were creative on the attack, said Loyola head coach Brendan Eitz. "We were able to put up three quality goals in the first 20 minutes, and to do that against a team that was ranked in the top 25 last season, it's a good result."

Junior Willie Koss tallied first for the Ramblers, with an assist from Ferguson. Senior Mark Halma put the next Loyola goal on the board, also getting a key pass from Ferguson. Ferguson capped the scoring in the first half with a goal of his own, leading the Ramblers to a 3-1 score at the half. Senior Alex Jones scored the final goal of the afternoon for the Ramblers.

Loyola opens the regular season next Tuesday (Sept. 1) against Creighton in Omaha, Neb. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. CT.
