Â
Coach Moser's Thoughts
"I'm most pleased with how we moved and shared the ball, with 26 assists and only eight turnovers. Eureka has tremendous shooters and runs its offense at a fast pace."
Â
How It Happened
Loyola sprinted out to a 14-3 lead as
Aundre Jackson scored six points to fuel that initial outburst, but from there, the Ramblers stagnated and allowed Eureka to creep back into the game.
Â
A three-point by Ryan McElmurry cut the Loyola lead down to 23-20, but
Cameron Satterwhite and
Cameron Krutwig combined for all of the Ramblers' points in a 9-2 surge that extended the lead back to double figures. Eureka closed within nine points, at 41-32, but Loyola gave itself a cushion thanks to a 14-6 run just before the half.
Â
Both teams shot lights out in the first half, with Loyola knocking down 20 of 36 attempts (55.6 percent) from the field, while the Red Devils connected on 51.6 percent (16-for-31) on their tries.
Â
Loyola put the game away early in the second half, starting the period with a 15-2 run that was triggered by the play of
Donte Ingram. The Preseason All-Missouri Valley Conference selection, who was limited to just one first-half point, tallied nine straight points in that run as the Ramblers built a comfortable 70-42 lead and coasted to the win.
Â
A Look At The Numbers
- Jackson nearly had a double-double in the first half alone and finished the day with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Ben Richardson also netted 14 points, hitting 4 of 7 shots from three-point territory.
- Satterwhite accounted for a career-best 12 points and six boards off the bench, and Marques Townes scored in double figures for the second time in as many games as a Rambler, posting 14 points, along with seven rebounds and five assists.
- Ingram pitched in 10 points to round out the double-digit scorers for Loyola, which saw 11 of the 13 players to appear in the game score at least one point.
- Shea Feehan led Eureka with 17 points and five boards.
- Loyola has now won 11 straight contests versus non-Division I foes.
