CHICAGO (December 9, 2017)
Â
In Short
Bruno Skokna produced a career-high 18 points off the bench and
Donte Ingram added 15 points and six rebounds to lead Loyola University Chicago (10-1) to an 80-52 victory over Norfolk State (0-9) this afternoon at Gentile Arena. The Ramblers connected on 71.4 percent (25-for-35) of their field goal attempts to set a Loyola single-game record, eclipsing the previous mark of 68.1 percent (32-for-47) versus Northwestern on December 15, 1990. Loyola has now won 15 straight home non-conference contests and its 10-1 record this season is the program's best through 11 games since 1965-66.

Coach Moser's Thoughts
"I thought we played the right way and were really spacing it and making the extra pass. You worry about a trap game coming off the Florida win, but I was most pleased with how we made the extra pass."
Â
How It Happened
Alex Long opened the scoring with a three-pointer but Norfolk State's lead would be short-lived.
Lucas Williamson, who was making his first collegiate start, drained a three-pointer and Ingram followed with another long ball to open up a 10-0 Loyola run that gave the Ramblers the lead for good.
Â
The Ramblers demoralized the Spartans early, hitting 9 of their first 11 shots, including 4 of their first 5 from three-point land, to open up a 26-17 lead that would eventually grow to as many as 20 points in the half, at 41-21.
Â
Loyola put the game out of reach at the outset of the second period, scoring nine straight points, including five from Skokna, as its lead ballooned to 56-28. The Ramblers would go on to lead by as many as 30 points, the final time coming on a three from Skokna with 7:03 remaining in the contest. Despite playing without its starting backcourt of
Clayton Custer and
Ben Richardson, who are sidelined with injuries, Loyola showcased its depth as four players scored in double figures and six scored eight or more points.
Â
A Look At The Numbers
- Skokna continues to perform off the bench and his 18 points set a new personal best, surpassing a 15-point outburst versus Eureka last November. The sophomore guard missed just one shot on the day, going 4-of-5 from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, and sank all eight of his free throw attempts. Since the start of the 2016-17 campaign, Loyola is now 12-0 when Skokna scored six or more points.
- Ingram connected on 5-of-6 tries from three-point range to account for all 15 of his points, while Cameron Krutwig scored in double figures for the second straight game, posting 12 points to go with eight rebounds and three assists. Like Skokna, both Ingram and Krutwig misfired just once of the day, with Krutwig's lone miss coming from the foul line.
- Making just his third career appearance, Adarius Avery netted a season-high 10 points, in only 16 minutes, off the bench.
- Aundre Jackson and Marques Townes pitched in eight points apiece.
- Loyola was red-hot from three-point range, connecting on 76.9 percent (10-for-13) of its shots from long distance.
- Derrick Jamerson, Jr. led Norfolk State with 14 points off the bench.
