LE CANNET, FRANCE (August 13, 2022)
In Short
Freshman
Jalen Quinn scored 17 points, 12 of which came in the second half, as Loyola University Chicago opened up its three-game trip to France by rallying from a seven-point, second-half deficit to record an 84-78 victory over Le Cannet Basket tonight.
How It Happened
Playing just 30 hours after arriving in France following a 16-hour travel day, Loyola was never able to get on track offensively in the first half. Playing without three players, including projected starters
Marquise Kennedy and
Bryce Golden, Loyola got a lift from freshman guard
Trey Lewis in the opening minutes as the Michigan native came off the bench to provide six points and three steals in the early going.
Loyola held a 51-49 advantage in the second half when Le Cannet put together an 11-2 stretch that gave the hosts a 60-53 lead, their largest of the contest.
The Ramblers found themselves in a 62-56 hole when
Saint Thomas knocked down a clutch three-pointer to spark a game-changing, 14-2 spurt that featured five points from Quinn. That critical run put Loyola on top, 70-64 late in the fourth quarter.
After Le Cannet fought back to knot the score at 72-72, Loyola got six unanswered points from freshmen, including four from Lewis, to seize the lead for good. Le Cannet cut the Ramblers' lead to one, at 79-78, in the final minute, but
Braden Norris buried a clutch three-pointer from the corner to extend Loyola's advantage to 82-78 and seal the outcome.
