WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 conference tabbed Maxwell Ionita it's Defensive Player of the Week following a 2-1-0 performance in goal for Loyola Chicago last week. It marks Ionita's first career honor.
 
Ionita helped the Ramblers to its best start since 2016 with a 5-0-2 start to the season before Loyola fell to UIC over the weekend. He posted two shutout wins, 19 saves, and a .33 goals against average over three matches last week.
 
On Monday, Ionita recorded a season-high eight saves in goal in a 1-0 win against Gonzaga in the final match of this year's Jesuit Invitational. He followed up with six saves in a 1-0 home win over SIUE Thursday, and he made five more saves in a 1-0 loss to UIC Sunday.
 
Ionita and the Ramblers will return to action Sept. 19 at Fordham to open A10 play.
