DAVIDSON, N.C. - Although play was even for the first 76 minutes of the match, the Loyola men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision at Davidson College Sunday afternoon in the second day of the Davidson Adidas Classic. The Ramblers fell victim to a three-goal 12-minute stretch by the Wildcats to end the match. Both teams are now 1-3 this season.
Freshman forward Michael Ferguson (Overland Park, Kan.) led the team with two shots. Ferguson started quickly with a scoring chance just 10 minutes into the match but could not convert on what would turn out to be the Ramblers' best scoring chance of the day.
Junior Tony DeLuca (Appleton, Wis.) and sophomore Kevin Harrigan (Woodridge, Ill.) contributed to shots on goal for Loyola but could not manage Loyola's fifth goal of the season.
Loyola's senior goalkeeper Sean Bond (Dallas, Tex.) started his second straight game and provided the Ramblers with a solid effort, making three saves.
Davidson outshot Loyola 11-4 in the second half and 18-7 overall. The Wildcats got the go-ahead goal and started its rally with a strike by Tom Lavan from eight yards outside the net off a service from Mac Wilkie with 13:31 remaining in the match. Lavan added a second goal at 85:43 and Tim Roark capped the scoring at 88:47.
The Ramblers return to Loyola Soccer on Friday for their second non-conference home match, against the Buffalo Bulls. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
