Coach Moser's Thoughts
"I'm proud of our guys. We are getting mentally tougher. When adversity hits, we keep bouncing back and that's a great sign for us."
Â
How It Happened
Both teams got off to a slow start at the offensive end of the floor and the team would combine for 24 turnovers in the first half alone.
Â
Loyola trailed 18-15 until a three-pointer from
Keith Clemons and a pair of
Marquise Kennedy free throws put the Ramblers on top, 20-18. That lead was short-lived however, as Illinois State responded with six straight points of its own to reclaim the lead, 24-20.
Â
The Ramblers closed the period by scoring the final eight points, four coming from
Tate Hall, to take a 28-24 advantage into the locker room at the half.Â
Â
Loyola scored the first six points of the second period to stretch its lead to 34-24, its largest of the day to that point, but consecutive threes from Zach Copeland got the Redbirds within 34-30. The Ramblers countered with a 12-5 spurt highlighted by seven points from
Jalon Pipkins, to increase their lead to 46-35.Â
Â
Illinois State worked back within six points, at 49-43, but Loyola cemented the outcome with a 11-3 run as the Maroon and Gold's lead ballooned to 60-46.
Â
A Look At The Numbers
- Hall added five rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals to his 17 points, while Clemons pitched in 10 points.
- Pipkins provided nine points off the bench and the Ramblers' reserves out-scored the Redbirds' bench, 18-2.
- Loyola limited Illinois State to 37.3 percent shooting (19-for-51) from the field and forced 22 Redbirds turnovers.
- During its current three-game win streak, Loyola is yielding just 47.3 points per game.
